The Public Transportation Is My Meditation Hall
7 October 2026
People picture meditation like this: silent room, scented candle, a person who has clearly never had a deadline.
Mine looked like this last Tuesday: the 6:42 bus, a man sneezing into my personal space, someone's phone playing a video at full volume with no headphones — a crime, honestly — and me, eyes closed, AirPods in, meditating.
Here's the secret nobody tells beginners: meditation doesn't need quiet. It needs you.
The method is portable because it's simple. No silence required, no incense, no perfect posture. You sit — yes, even on a bus seat that smells like rain and regret — and do the same three things:
- Sit down. (The bus already handled this one. You're welcome.)
- Reflect — look back at how you've lived, honestly, from the big picture. The noise around you doesn't matter. The noise was never the point.
- Discard — let it go, the method's way. Thought by thought, picture by picture.
The commotion doesn't stop. That's the beautiful part — it doesn't have to. The other passengers are still stressed, still scrolling, still sneezing. You're just not in the filing cabinet anymore.
Ten minutes. One commute. Same method, no cushion required.
